The best places to run this Autumn

We know that for many runners, staying fit and healthy is easier to do at certain times of year. When the sun’s shining and the temperatures are warm, you’re likely more than happy to be out and about, enjoying the outdoors and exercising.

But when those temperatures start to drop and conditions worsen, many runners can find it hard to find the motivation to face the elements.

At Dexshell, we specialise in items designed to make exercising in all conditions as comfortable as possible. We believe there’s no such thing as bad weather – just bad clothing. Items such as waterproof socks and waterproof hats for example can help you overcome the elements with ease.

Additionally, finding beautiful places in which to run and being able to take in the beauty of the area can make the possibly inclement conditions all the more tolerable.

As such, we’ve picked out some of our favourite places in the UK to run at this autumn.

The Peak District

Dexshell is based in Manchester, and we’re fortunate not only to be located in this fantastic city but also have quick access to the many beautiful, unspoilt areas that are close by.

The Peak District offers a host of beautiful sites and picturesque landscapes that are perfect for runners this Autumn.

There are plenty of challenging routes out there, but also a few pleasant flat paths around the many  reservoirs located in the Peaks.

Two of our favourites are Fernilee and Errwood reservoirs, which are in the Goyt Valley between Buxton and Whaley Bridge. These offer a great place to run and take in nature at the same time.

London’s Open Spaces

Those who live in the English capital know how pleasant the city’s open spaces can be. And even when the weather isn’t great, these places can be great for running in.

London-based runners likely have a few favourite spots, but there are certainly some hidden gems out there.

Richmond Park is a well-known green space, but why not sample the nearby Wimbledon Common this Autumn?

South London has a host of other green spaces that are great to run in, such as Peckham Rye Park, Greenwich Park and the fascinating Nunhead Cemetery.

North of the river, Hampstead Heath and Victoria Park are great spots to get out to as well and can help you get that sense of achievement that a treadmill frankly doesn’t provide.

Beauty spots in the South of England

There a number of beautiful places spread across the south of England with some superb running spots.

The Kent Downs, High Weald, Surrey Hills, South Downs, North Wessex and Cranbourne Case are all designated areas of natural beauty, and these regions contain a myriad of gorgeous spots to get out and sample this Autumn.

For those who like a challenging run, the Exmoor and Dartmoor national parks in Devon offer some rewarding cross-country routes that really allow you to sample a different type of landscape.

Beautiful Beaches on the Gower

Running on beaches can be tough, but with so many stunning stretches of sand on offer in the UK, the reward is worth it.

Wales has some of the UK’s most stunning shorelines, and in particularly the Gower peninsula is a hub of fantastic landscapes and beaches.

In particular, the beach at Rhossili is iconic and a runner’s paradise, while there are also great beach options at Oxwich Bay, Port Eynon and The Mumbles.

Wherever, Whenever

Ultimately, it’s all about getting out there and discovering great places near to run in. So this autumn, why not try somewhere new and explore exciting new areas to run in.

Dexshell can help provide all the equipment you need to stay warm and comfortable as well. We stock running socks, as well as hats and gloves that are ideal to wear while out running, so take a look through our range today.
